Embark Dog DNA Breed Ancestry – Where Your Dog’s Ancestors Came From

Your dog has taken a long trip to get to your lap. There are over 350 unique dog breeds, types and varieties. And while we know all dogs are related, some are more closely related than others.

Through your dog’s Y-Chromosome we can trace his ancestry back to where dogs and humans first became friends. Each different ancient group – or haplogroup – tells a different story of creation, migration, struggle and ultimately survival.

Through his Mitochondrial DNA we can trace his ancestry as it relates to his mother. Mitochondrial DNA or mtDNA is inherited only from a dog’s mother.

Health – (P)rethinking Canine Health

What if caring for your dog was proactive instead of reactive? The Embark breed and health kit tests for 210+ health conditions — more than any other dog DNA test on the market.

Our health report makes it easy to send your pup’s results to their vet to make a care plan for all their years to come.

Get ahead of canine diseases that occur later in life including glaucoma, degenerative myelopathy, and dilated cardiomyopathy, three of the most common adult-onset diseases in dogs. Knowing that your dog is predisposed as early as possible means starting prevention or treatment early too.

Embark Dog DNA Traits

Learn why your dog is unique, from the tip of the nose to the shape of the toes—plus everything in between.

Where other tests just tell you the breeds in your dog, Embark actually looks at the genetic basis of appearance to explain why your dog looks like your dog. See how closely your pup resembles other Embark dogs with the same trait genes, even if their breed mix is different! These traits can even help you guess what your dog’s offspring might look like.

For example, a number of genetic loci are known to affect coat colour in dogs—they all interact and, in some cases, other unknown genetic effects may also influence colour and pattern.

The Embark Dog DNA Test reports coat colour, other coat traits, body feature and size, performance and genetic diversity.
